Former US beauty queen's Brisbane ex-partner to face court charged with her murder

he Brisbane ex-partner of a former American beauty queen who has been missing for almost a year is expected to face court  charged with her murder . Detectives charged 43-year-old Mark Waden yesterday with one count of murder after a week-long search of a Bracken Ridge home. An excavator and cadaver dogs were used in the search for the Priscilla Brooten, a 46-year-old US citizen. The keen gamer and Zumba dance teacher had not been seen since July last year. She was reportedly in a relationship with the accused before she disappeared. Hundreds gather to raise money for Brisbane charity Youngcare

Dressed in their Friday best, hundreds of Brisbane ladies converged on one of the city’s newest venues for the third annual “Y Women” lunch. The event — at The Lushington, a 1920s space revamped into a glammed-up warehouse — raised big bucks for Youngcare, a Brisbane-founded national body which helps young Australians with high-care needs. Fire guts eight classrooms at Upper Mt Gravatt State School on Brisbane's southside

A Brisbane primary school has been shut down and a crime scene declared after a "significant" fire destroyed several classrooms. The blaze gutted eight classrooms that were used by about 200 students from prep to year four. Police and fire investigators have returned to Upper Mount Gravatt State School this morning to investigate the blaze.
