Skies darken over Brisbane as hail storms sweep through southern Queensland

 Several storms have swept through Queensland, bringing rain, hail and lightning to a vast area from the Gold Coast to as far north as the Central Highlands.

The skies darkened over Brisbane late on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) warned residents to take cover and secure their belongings.

As much as 40 millimetres of rain was forecast for the city, with warnings of hail as big as 5 centimetres further north between Redcliffe and Woodford.
