China tensions cost Australia $2.3 billion investment

 Australia leaned heavily on a fruitful trading relationship with China to avoid tumbling into a recession during the Global Financial Crisis.


But as the economy succumbs to the economic shock of the coronavirus, it has been revealed investment from the eastern superpower has plummeted at an alarming rate.


Chinese investment in Australia fell more than 47 per cent last year from $4.8 billion to $2.5 billion, according to new data from the Australian National University.
