Australia shelves plan to fly in international students

Canberra’s universities have shelved plans to fly in international students after a resurgence of Covid-19 cases triggered renewed lockdowns and border closures in Australia.

The Australian National University and the University of Canberra said they had decided to postpone a “well-advanced pilot plan” to return 350 continuing students to Canberra campuses later this month.

Buranda traffic backup frustrates commuters, cyclists as Brisbane Metro work starts

 Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have found rare common ground as they battle delays and difficult transport routes caused by the temporary closure of a key southside thoroughfare in Brisbane. Work on upgrading and extending the Buranda busway station to allow for the new Brisbane Metro has begun but meant Brisbane City Council has closed the eastbound lanes on busy O'Keefe Street between Carl Street and Gillingham Street. A detour is in place via Carl Street, Cornwall Street, Logan Road and Montague Street and the westbound lanes on O'Keefe Street between Gillingham Street and Carl Street were also reduced to a single lane.
