Coronavirus Australia: Swimming Aussies caught out by rangers

Despite repeated calls from the Prime Minister and leading health officers, Australians have continued to ignore social distancing rules and head to the beach.

But for swimmers in Mackenzies Bay in Sydney’s east, they were embarrassingly caught out by council rangers yesterday.

It comes less than a week since thousands of Australians massed on Bondi Beach after strict advice to socially distance themselves from others.

The Government announced its disgust at such actions and closed many beaches, including Mackenzies Bay, but that hasn’t stopped some Australians.

Buranda traffic backup frustrates commuters, cyclists as Brisbane Metro work starts

 Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have found rare common ground as they battle delays and difficult transport routes caused by the temporary closure of a key southside thoroughfare in Brisbane. Work on upgrading and extending the Buranda busway station to allow for the new Brisbane Metro has begun but meant Brisbane City Council has closed the eastbound lanes on busy O'Keefe Street between Carl Street and Gillingham Street. A detour is in place via Carl Street, Cornwall Street, Logan Road and Montague Street and the westbound lanes on O'Keefe Street between Gillingham Street and Carl Street were also reduced to a single lane.
