From the Archives, 1999: Australia says no to a republic

The referendum question was set to fail on both critical counts: it has no chance to win a national majority, and could fail in every state.
The proposed preamble was also decisively rejected.
The head of Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy, Mrs Kerry Jones, broke out the champagne at 8.07pm, effectively declaring victory.
Australian Republican Movement leader Malcolm Turnbull on the last day of his campaign before Australians voted against a republic in 1999.

New measles case in Sydney after young man developed symptoms following a trip to South East Asia

A young Sydney man who recently returned from travelling around South East Asia has been diagnosed with measles and spent over a week visiting parts of the city while infectious.
