Two foreign ships banned from Australia over 'modern-day slave labour'

Authorities have banned two foreign-flagged ships from Australian ports after their crews reported being underpaid hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Chinese-owned bulk carrier MV Xing Jing Hai and the Panama-flagged MV Fortune Genius were banned for 18 months and 12 months respectively.
Australian Maritime Safety Authority investigators found the crews were owed about $240,000 in unpaid wages.
The Hong Kong-flagged MV Xing Jing Hai was delivering materials to the Port of Brisbane when it was detained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority on Wednesday.

 Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have found rare common ground as they battle delays and difficult transport routes caused by the temporary closure of a key southside thoroughfare in Brisbane. Work on upgrading and extending the Buranda busway station to allow for the new Brisbane Metro has begun but meant Brisbane City Council has closed the eastbound lanes on busy O'Keefe Street between Carl Street and Gillingham Street. A detour is in place via Carl Street, Cornwall Street, Logan Road and Montague Street and the westbound lanes on O'Keefe Street between Gillingham Street and Carl Street were also reduced to a single lane.
