Brisbane storm threat clears just in time for Riverfire fireworks

Half a million revellers turned out for the Riverfire fireworks display after the weather bureau cancelled its two severe weather warnings with 90 minutes to spare.
The event drew an estimated 500,000 people to the river’s edge and attracted an at-home television audience of more than 400,000 across Queensland via Channel Nine’s coverage.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michael Knepp said there were no signs of any wet weather developing around Brisbane at 6pm, meaning those who lined the Brisbane River for the Sunsuper Riverfire climax should not have the occasion dampened by rain or storms.

Buranda traffic backup frustrates commuters, cyclists as Brisbane Metro work starts

 Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have found rare common ground as they battle delays and difficult transport routes caused by the temporary closure of a key southside thoroughfare in Brisbane. Work on upgrading and extending the Buranda busway station to allow for the new Brisbane Metro has begun but meant Brisbane City Council has closed the eastbound lanes on busy O'Keefe Street between Carl Street and Gillingham Street. A detour is in place via Carl Street, Cornwall Street, Logan Road and Montague Street and the westbound lanes on O'Keefe Street between Gillingham Street and Carl Street were also reduced to a single lane.
