 Queensland has more than doubled its expected budget surplus after the booming housing market pumped billions of extra dollars into the state's coffers. Treasurer Cameron Dick revealed the state's official operating surplus for the 2021-22 financial year was $4.3 billion. It is the biggest budget surplus in Queensland history and more than twice the $1.9 billion surplus that was predicted in the June budget.  The head of forensic sciences in Queensland met with Health Minister Yvette D'Ath in June to discuss urgent problems with DNA testing of crime scene samples but failed to mention police had been briefing her about the issues for almost six months, an inquiry has heard. Lara Keller, the acting executive director of Queensland Health's Forensic and Scientific Services (FSS), told the inquiry into forensic DNA testing she met with Ms D'Ath and the department's Acting Director-General Shaun Drummond on June 2. She said she was asked to attend the meeting after the Queensland Police Service's submission to the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce was published with concerning data relating to forensic DNA testing in the state.  Karni Liddell has been left isolated after her specially modified car and wheelchair was stolen from her home over the weekend. Forced to rent a "very expensive" but "very secure" apartment after her Hendra home was flooded in February, Ms Liddell has been left shocked at the latest round of bad luck she had been dealt. The former Paralympian swimmer and disability advocate has spent thousands of dollars modifying her black Honda Odyssey with a ramp and a hoist so she can easily access private transport.  Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians have found rare common ground as they battle delays and difficult transport routes caused by the temporary closure of a key southside thoroughfare in Brisbane. Work on upgrading and extending the Buranda busway station to allow for the new Brisbane Metro has begun but meant Brisbane City Council has closed the eastbound lanes on busy O'Keefe Street between Carl Street and Gillingham Street. A detour is in place via Carl Street, Cornwall Street, Logan Road and Montague Street and the westbound lanes on O'Keefe Street between Gillingham Street and Carl Street were also reduced to a single lane.  Brisbane City Council has called for public responses to its new Victoria Park/Barrambin Draft Master Plan. The plan will transform 64 hectares of public open space near the city centre and include bike and walking tracks, a high ropes course, a cafe, playground and visitor centre, along with various natural features. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said more than 51,000 ideas were received from residents during the initial phase of the project.
